Graunke expected to return to UH football team
Senior quarterback Tyler Graunke has cleared up academic issues and it is expected he will return to the University of Hawaii football team, offensive coordinator Ron Lee said today.
"I heard he's OK (academically), but I don't know the details," Lee said.
Graunke served as the Warriors No. 2 quarterback the past three seasons behind Colt Brennan. He was atop the depth chart before being suspended by coach Greg McMackin in the offseason. He was reinstated in time for spring practice and emerged tied for No. 1 quarterback with Inoke Funaki, but was held out of fall camp.
Sophomore Brent Rausch was named No. 1 quarterback last week, with juniors Funaki and Greg Alexander the top backups.
It was not immediately known when Graunke would return to practice, and it is not expected that he would be ready to compete in the season opener Aug. 30 at Florida.
